Pfizer was the company that developed and patented sildenafil. Originally developed as a treatment for angina, it was discovered during clinical trials that the drug was also highly effective in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil was marketed under the brand name Viagra.
Sildenafil’s original patent has now expired which means that other companies may now make generic versions of the drug and prescribed in the United Kingdom. Pfizer Sildenafil is, as the name suggests, Pfizer’s own generic version of the drug, which they themselves originally developed and brought to market.
Pfizer Sildenafil is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (difficulty in having or maintaining an erection). It is thought that around fifty per cent of men between the age of forty and seventy suffer from erectile dysfunction to some extent. Sildenafil (marketed as Viagra) has proved hugely successful in the treatment of the condition.
Pfizer Sildenafil works in exactly the same way as Viagra. It belongs to a group of medications that are known as PDE5 inhibitors. Restricting the levels of PDE5 in the penis causes the blood vessels within it to fill with blood and thus cause the penis to become erect. Pfizer Sildenafil is usually initially prescribed at a dose of 50mg, though it is possible to take the medication at a higher dose of 100mg or a lower dose of 25mg.
All medications can incur side effects. Pfizer Sildenafil does not cause side effects in most people. The most commonly reported side effects, however, are headache, blurred vision and indigestion. If any of there reactions occur you are advised to speak to your doctor.
