Fucidin, which comes as a cream and as an ointment, is a medication that is prescribed in the treatment of a number of skin conditions. Fucidin cream reduces skin inflammation that occurs when the body’s immune system releases chemicals due to a skin infection. It also stops the bacteria, which cause the infection in the first place, from multiplying.
The active ingredient in Fucidin cream is fusidic acid, which is an antibiotic. It works by changing the bacteria’s cellular structure from within, in a way that means that they are unable to multiply. The inability of the bacteria to multiply and the body’s own immune system kicking in to destroy them means that the body is able to rid itself of the infection.
