EllaOne is an emergency contraceptive pill, something that is more commonly known as the morning after pill. At Private Doctor Direct we can prescribe EllaOne to you for next day delivery.
EllaOne works in two ways. In the first instance it works by preventing the ovaries from producing an egg. Secondly, it alters the lining of the womb to ensure that if an egg has been released and fertilized that it will not be able to implant itself in the womb. This means that pregnancy is much less likely to occur.
You can take EllaOne up to five days after sexual intercourse has taken place. Levonelle has to be taken within three days after sexual intercourse has taken place, which makes EllaOne more convenient. You should remember, however, that no emergency contraception can ever be guaranteed completely effective. There is always a small risk that you may get pregnant even after taking EllaOne though, of course, the likelihood of getting pregnant is significantly reduced.
If you are taking the contraceptive pill, EllaOne can reduce its effectiveness, so you should use a barrier method such as the condom until your next period.
All prescription medications have the potential to cause side effects. In the case of EllaOne side effects are rare. The most commonly reported are:
If, after taking EllaOne, you vomit within three hours you will need to take another pill, as it is likely that the medication will not have been absorbed into your system.
If you complete an online consultation with Private Doctor Direct we can decide if EllaOne is a suitable treatment for you to take. You cannot be prescribed EllaOne if you are taking St John’s Wort or if you suffer with asthma. If we decide that EllaOne is not suitable for you then there may be alternatives, so please make a full disclosure when you fill in your online consultation form.
