Dymista is a treatment for hay fever and allergic rhinitis (an inflammation of the nasal lining due to an allergic reaction) that comes in the form of a nasal spray. Dymista is effective in treating both a runny and a blocked up nose. It also alleviates sneezing and itching. Hay fever symptoms usually subside within thirty minutes after Dymista is used. Dymista is most effective when used regularly over several days. What is Dymista?
Dymista is what is known as a dual action drug. That means that it contains two medicines: azelastine, an antihistamine and fluticasone, a steroid, which reduces inflammation of the nasal lining.
The antihistamine in Dymista, azelastine, usually begins to work within thirty to sixty minutes after being taken. Fluticasone, the anti inflammatory part of the medicine takes a little longer to have an effect- usually a couple of days. If Dymista is used regularly over a number of days, then hay fever symptoms should improve. If you stop taking Dymista, the antihistamine effect of the medicine will wear off in anything from twelve hours to a day and the steroid after a few days.
It is unlikely that you will have any side effects from using Dymista. The most common side effects are headache, nosebleed, a bitter tasting mouth and a pungent smell.
You should not use other nasal sprays for allergic rhinitis if you are using Dymista. If you do you may end up getting a double dose.
If you do not notice an improvement in your symptoms after a week you should consult your doctor.
You should consult your doctor if your symptoms get worse or you begin to suffer nosebleeds.
You should not use Dymista continuously for more than three months unless advised to do so by your doctor.
