Cialis is a medication that is prescribed to men who are suffering with Erectile Dysfunction (difficulty in either getting or maintaining an erection). It contains the active ingredient tadalafil and works by increasing the flow of blood to the penis so a man can gain and keep erection for the duration of desired sexual activity. Taken on an ‘as required basis’, Cialis is available as a tablet in doses of either 10mg or 20mg. If you go for the Cialis once-a-day option, the doses are 2.5mg or 5mg.
Cialis is also prescribed to men who are suffering with an enlarged prostate gland (a condition that is called benign prostatic hyperplasia). This is because as well as improving blood flow to the penis, Cialis improves blood flow to the prostate as well.
Many men, as they get older, suffer with an enlarged prostate. This can exert pressure on the urethra and restrict the flow of urine from the bladder. This can cause various symptoms including weak urine flow, the need to pass urine frequently and difficultly in passing urine.
Cialis is what is known as a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor. This family medicines work by preventing the physiological effects of a chemical called phosphodiesterase type 5
Any medication can cause side effects. Common side effects of Cialis (affects between one in ten and one in a hundred people) include headache, dizziness, flushing, nasal congestion, back pain, pain in the muscles and indigestion.
