What is a verruca?

A verruca is caused by the human papilloma virus, which exists in many different forms. Verrucae are sometimes called plantar warts. They are only ever found on the soles of the feet. A verruca is a wart that is growing inwards as the result of the pressure that has been applied to it by standing.

What is the treatment for verrucae?

If you go into a pharmacy you will be able to buy over the counter treatments for verrucae. At Private Doctor Direct, however, we are able to offer you a prescription strength treatment for verrucae in the form of a cream. Before we are able to prescribe it to you we just need to make sure that is an appropriate treatment for you.

Aldara Cream

At Private Doctor Direct we are able to give you Aldara cream as a treatment for verrucae. Usually Aldara is prescribed as a treatment for genital warts though it is just as effective as a treatment for verrucae. When you rub the cream onto the verruca the body’s immune system kicks in and fights off the virus, thus helping it to get rid of the verruca.

How do you use Aldara cream?

When we supply to with your Aldara cream you will also receive all the instructions that you will need to use the treatment. The cream is used three times a week and is left on for eight hours before it needs to be washed off. Filing down the verruca in between treatments can also help. You should see results in eight weeks though sometimes you will need to continue applying Aldara for up to sixteen weeks.

What are verrucae?

Most people will get a verruca at some time in their life. It is easy to pick up a verruca from the floor and it is not necessary for someone to come into contact with someone who already has a verruca to catch one. Verrucae can cause a lot of pain and may also spread and cause verruca clusters, known as mosaic warts. They will sometimes clear up by themselves though this may take years.
